Original Designs by Linda Gwatkin:
Cyanotype (sa-YAN-no-type) is a slow-reacting, photographic printing formulation sensitive to ultraviolet rays and blue light spectrum, historically used for printing blueprints.
I use both dry and wet cyanotypes – but wet is my preferred process as it can produce some surprising and unexpected results – you can never reproduce an image, meaning that each piece is absolutely unique. I experiment with watercolour paper and a mix of different fabrics – but especially like those fine fabrics like muslin – with a loose weave, as the finished piece has more texture – sometimes looking like denim. I live by the beach and collect grasses, as well as flowers, such as fuchsias, roses, and foliage to produce my images – and the perfect thing is – that the flowers are better used when going over – so when I prune my roses – I can then use the flowers in my art. Or an even more wonderful thing is when someone gives me a bunch of flowers – I then have a mix of flowers to use in my design when they are past their best!
Mimms Silks: Beautiful and eclectic mix of animals and flowers all produced on silk with a mystical vibe.
